Caswell Correctional Release Outcomes
Caswell Correctional Center is an NCDAC medium-custody prison for adult men. Its releases belong to the statewide prison system, not the Caswell County Sheriff's booking system. A person may complete the custodial part of a sentence and leave prison, begin post-release supervision, enter parole under an eligible older-law sentence, or move to another form of authorized custody. NCDAC Offender Public Information, commonly called OPI, keeps the state record after physical confinement ends.
Location alone does not define the destination. A person discharged from this Blanch institution may return to another North Carolina county, another state, or a different legal custodian. The statewide Inmate Release Search associates a release with its destination county. It is not a log of everyone who walked out of a prison building in Caswell County. Conversely, its CASWELL results can include people released from prisons elsewhere with Caswell recorded as the release county.
Confirm Caswell Correctional Release
The NCDAC Criminal Offender Searches hub states that OPI covers state-prison offenders, probationers, parolees, releases, absconders, and historical information dating from 1972. It expressly excludes ordinary county-jail records. Search by offender number when possible because that identifier is stronger than a name. If only a name is known, add birth information or other available fields to separate similar records.
- Open the OPI offender search and enter the NCDAC offender number, or use last and first name.
- Choose All if the person may still be on supervision. Choose Inactive to focus on closed prison or supervision records.
- Open the correct offender-number result and compare identity details before reading any custody date.
- Review incarceration status, current and prior locations, Last Movement, Actual Release Date, and the detainer field together.
- Check probation, parole, and post-release status. A person can be out of prison while still under NCDAC supervision.
- Use the Inmate Release Search by surname or by destination county, month, and year when a grouped state release result is useful.
Inactive is not enough by itself. One closed historical sentence may remain beside a newer custody episode. Projected Release Date is also not proof that release occurred. The best public combination is a released or inactive incarceration status, an Actual Release Date, a Last Movement consistent with discharge, and any following supervision entry. For county-jail episodes and the full records fallback, use the Caswell County released inmate search.
Note: OPI summary and sentence rows can carry different dates, so read the entire state record before reaching a conclusion.
Caswell Correctional Release Fields
An OPI detail record mixes identity, sentence, custody movement, release, and supervision data. Each group answers a different question. The prison location identifies where NCDAC held the person at a point in time. Last Movement describes a later movement event. Actual Release Date records an accomplished state custody endpoint. A supervision line can show that state control continued in the community after prison.
| OPI field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Incarceration status | Shows whether the prison episode is active or closed. |
| Current or previous location | Connects the offender to Caswell Correctional Center or another institution. |
| Last Movement and date | Identifies the latest transfer, admission, or release-related movement. |
| Projected Release Date | Provides a sentence-computation estimate, not a completed discharge. |
| Actual Release Date | Records the date the identified state incarceration ended. |
| Probation, parole, or PRS status | Shows whether community supervision follows confinement. |
| Detainer flag | Signals that another legal hold may affect the next destination. |
The OPI search accepts offender status, last name, first name, middle initial, Soundex, offender number, gender, race, ethnic group, date of birth with year tolerances, and age range. These are identity controls, not evidence of release by themselves. Soundex can find spelling variants, but the correct result still needs a matching offender number or several consistent identifiers.
Caswell Correctional Release Records
OPI is the first public source, and the institution can answer immediate operational questions. When the displayed fields do not resolve the event, NCDAC's public-records channel is the durable route. NCDAC states that basic conviction information, time served, sentence length, admission, and release dates are public. Most other offender information and detailed supervision files are confidential, so a request should stay narrow and identify the offender number.
Submit an NCDAC request through the Adult Correction public-records office. Ask for an existing admission or release date, a public movement or destination field, or clarification of a public sentence entry that OPI does not settle. Include names, offender number, date range, and requested electronic format. Simple requests may take days, while complex requests can take weeks or months. That is NCDAC's practical guidance, not a fixed legal deadline.
A Caswell County court file may document the judgment or a later order. It still does not replace the state incarceration record. The Sheriff's Records Division does not own a state-prison discharge merely because Caswell Correctional Center is physically inside the county. If the person was once in the county jail before state admission, the county and state events produce separate records.
Caswell Correctional Records Contact
The prison's official page supplies the institution address, phone, custody level, population served, and capacity. Call the prison for a current operational question, but use OPI and NCDAC records for lasting release evidence. Do not route a state sentence question to the county detention center.

The official Caswell Correctional Center profile is the primary facility source. The captured profile below identifies the state institution discussed in the release record.
This NCDAC profile should be paired with OPI when confirming whether a named person left state custody or only changed institutions.
Caswell Correctional Custody Profile
The official NCDAC profile lists Caswell Correctional Center as a medium-custody facility for adult men with a capacity of 460. Capacity is not a live population count, an average daily population, or a yearly release total. No verified local annual release figure was found. The number should be used only to describe the institution's designed scale.
Medium custody also distinguishes Caswell Correctional Center from the county detention facility and minimum-custody Dan River Prison Work Farm. The custody label does not by itself reveal a person's release date or eligibility. Those facts depend on the individual sentence record, earned-time calculation, holds, later court action, and NCDAC movement history.
Caswell Correctional Release Destinations
The NCDAC Inmate Release Search accepts a release county, year, and month, or a surname with optional Soundex. Its results include offender number, name, Release Date, Primary Offense, and Type of Release. CASWELL is county code 17 in that search. The key is the meaning of release county: it is a destination field associated with a state-prison release.
| Record result | Correct conclusion |
|---|---|
| CASWELL release-county result | The state release is associated with Caswell as destination; the prison could have been elsewhere. |
| Actual Release Date on OPI | The listed state incarceration ended on that date; check supervision and holds next. |
| Last Movement to another prison | The person remained in NCDAC custody after leaving Caswell Correctional Center. |
| Active PRS or parole | Physical prison custody ended, but state community supervision continues. |
Post-release supervision is mandatory community supervision for many structured-sentencing prison terms. It is not the same as parole. Parole is discretionary release for eligible older-law cases and limited exceptions. OPI can show the active status and assigned office. If the office field is unclear, NCDAC Community Supervision headquarters can route the inquiry at 919-716-3100.
Note: The county containing the prison and the county named as a state release destination answer different questions.
Caswell Correctional and Local Jails
Caswell County has three active custody sites with three distinct roles. Caswell County Detention Center is the 108-bed local jail identified in an NCDHHS attachment. Caswell Correctional Center is this 460-capacity medium-custody state prison. Dan River Prison Work Farm is a 640-capacity minimum-custody state prison that officially opened in 1996. A late-nineteenth-century former jail also remains behind the historic courthouse.
This local geography makes exact naming essential. “Caswell jail” can incorrectly mix a Sheriff booking with an NCDAC sentence, and the resulting search may use the wrong custodian. A transfer from the county detention center to Caswell Correctional Center is not community release. A movement from Caswell Correctional Center to Dan River or another prison is also not release. The prison's Actual Release Date and later supervision status are the proper state evidence.
After Caswell Correctional Release
Release from prison can lead to active post-release supervision or parole. OPI may list a probation or parole office, and the NCDAC office directory can help locate the responsible field unit. Community supervision is not continued imprisonment, but it is an active state status with conditions. An absconder entry has a different meaning: NCDAC uses that term for a person who avoids required contact and makes whereabouts unknown. It does not by itself prove a new conviction.
The NCDAC Local Reentry Councils source describes the state's reentry network. The captured page below gives context for support after an NCDAC release, though it does not establish any one person's status or promise a specific Caswell service.
Release status should still be verified in OPI. Program information and a corrections photo are supporting context, not substitutes for Actual Release Date or Last Movement.
